I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you are not in the upper class, as none of us probably are. If that's the case, then you (we) do not know how that feels to be taxed more in that regard. It's discrimination and punishing you from becoming wealthy or successful. Why try to have boatloads of money or huge property if all you get in return is higher taxes?
You still get higher income and higher state of living, otherwise you would just become middle class (and that doesnt happen)
DURRRRR
This also makes a point to defining what is upperclass and middleclass. Sure, we all would say we're in the middleclass, but then again, what does the government officials do to obesity and poverty?
One of the big things this does is discriminates those who are more wealthy than those who are not.
Soo... ok, let's tax the rich just a little bit more. Then let's also tax the blacks a little bit more. And the mexicans too, while we're at it.
Once you discriminate one type of a group of humans, you cannot stop.
And, as a final point, the government is doing taxes all wrong in the first place. There should and IS no constitutional authority for an Income tax. The only type of tax should be a flat percentile Sales tax, for all new goods. The logic behind this is, since EVERYONE has to buy some sort of good (whether food, clothes, houses, cars, etc) EVERYONE contributes to the GDP and federal income. This includes illegal immigrants.
It also allows for better commerce between states for online purchases, as the tax is the same everywhere, so everyone pays. You remove virtually all traces of tax evasion and fraud. There are few flaws with this theory, and this is why government doesn't use it.
